Webinar – Driving change or disruption? The impact of policy on electrification – Insights from the van market
The European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) is hosting a webinar on Wednesday, 22 October to explore how evolving policies are reshaping market dynamics and the pace of electrification. The session will feature a review of the latest state of play of the van market, followed by manufacturers’ insights on the challenges and opportunities for the industry, and a discussion on the crucial steps to accelerate the transition towards climate-neutral road transport.
Policy changes can boost electrification but also risk destabilising markets if not carefully designed. This webinar will explore how evolving regulations are reshaping market dynamics and the pace of electrification, highlighting the need for balanced measures that support both climate goals and market stability.
Speakers will focus on the van sector, a key part of Europe’s mobility and economy, vital for logistics, small businesses, and public services, yet facing major challenges in the transition to zero emission mobility.
Despite broader model availability, electric van uptake remains slow, reaching only 8.5% market share, well below the 15 to 20% needed to meet CO2 targets. Limited charging infrastructure, high energy costs, and uncertain incentives remain key barriers, especially for commercial users who prioritise affordability and operational efficiency. Without targeted support and harmonised rules, the electrification of Europe’s van fleet will fall behind climate objectives.
Speakers:
- Rosanne Vanpée, Researcher, Transport & Mobility Leuven (TML)
- Pierre Cognet, Public Affairs Specialist – Environmental matters, Stellantis
- Andrew Johnson, Europe Director – Sustainability, Homologation & Compliance, Ford Motor Company
- Maria Linkova-Nijs, Executive Head Policy & Strategy, ACEA
